Pt. 5 You Can’t Stop
the Unstoppable
·
God calls us to do the IMPOSSIBLE.
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of
a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7 (nkjv).
“But [Peter] replied, ‘Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to
death.’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you
will deny three times that you know me.’” Luke 22:33-34
‘We must obey God rather than human beings! The God of our ancestors
raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. God
exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring
Israel to repentance and forgive their sins. We are witnesses of these things,
and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.’” Acts 5:29-32
·
God empowers us to be UNSTOPPABLE.
“For if their purpose or
activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not
be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against
God.” Acts
5:38-39
“…“because
they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the
Name.” Acts 5:41
“So the
word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large
number of priests became obedient to the faith.” Acts 6:7
·
God will never FAIL us.
Stephen
is described as:
“a man full of God’s grace and power,” Acts 6:8
“‘Lord
Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he fell on his knees and cried out, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin
against them.’” Acts 7:59-60
The
Result:
“You
will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and
in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Meanwhile,
the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. Acts 7:58b
And Saul
was there, giving approval to his (Stephen’s) death. Acts 8:1
“And we
know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called
according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Next Week: We take a
short break in our teaching series to feature Pastor Jenny Compton sharing a
