Yesterday, December 7th, 1941—a date which will live in infamy

As I served communion yesterday at church I shared these words:

Today is December 7th.  Seventy Three years ago, on a Sunday morning, the United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Over 2000 people were killed and over 1,000 people injured in the surprise attack that drew the United States into World War II.

This is a national day of remembrance and during our time of communion we pause to pray for those men and women who have given their lives in sacrifice for our freedom and to offer thanks to God for His gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ!

Yesterday, December 7th, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The United States was at peace with that nation, and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific ... With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph. So help us God."— President Franklin D. Roosevelt before a Joint Session of Congress, December 8, 1941.
