So what can we do when we’re faced with fear?
Though it’s
not easy, with Gods help, we can defeat fear by making two proactive choices:
❌ 1. Choose to not let fear control your thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:5
“casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”
Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
“When fear knocks on your door, remind yourself of what is true rather than thinking about what isn’t. Fear subsides when we tune out the loud lies that beckon us and listen to the gentle, loving voice of God. Focusing our thoughts on God‘s truth in His perfect, unfailing love drives out fear.”
❗ 2. Choose to guard your heart
“If watching the news makes your blood pressure rise, then stop watching the news. If spending time with people who also struggle with fear sets you off, then implement a boundary and limit your time with those individuals. If watching certain movies or television shows or reading particular books increases your fear response-you guessed it stay away! Above all else guard your heart!”
“ One of the best ways to guard your heart is to fortify it with God’s truth about fear by reading, studying, and memorizing scripture and then praying that the Holy Spirit will guide and protect you”
Focus on these verses:
Exodus 14:14
“The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Psalm 56:3
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Proverbs 12:25
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad”
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your care upon him; for He cares for you.”
So technically these verses are about fear, I hope you also discover another theme: HOPE!
In His perfect love, God is the great restore of hope. He makes
all things new. He can do so much with so little.
Nothing is ever
beyond His capabilities!
