Nietzsche was a German classical scholar and philosopher who first wrote these
words in his book of aphorisms, “Twilight of the Idols,” in 1888. Over the last
century, this quote has been repeated and paraphrased countless times by an
immeasurable number of people. With this observation, Nietzsche suggests we
should view suffering as an opportunity to form fortitude. Every challenge that
we face and survive is a learning experience that strengthens our character and
our courage.
