RICK'S RECIPES: Texas Road House Rolls and Butter

Texas Road House Rolls

These are easy to make too, the only hard part is waiting for the dough to rise a couple times. Waiting is boring. I decided to watch Sister Act II while the bread rose- and I can’t believe I just admitted that. Am I the only one who thinks that movie is awesome?  If anyone else can come forward with the same confession, you’d make my DAY.

The Copycat Texas Roadhouse honey butter is really easy to whip up too- and it goes perfectly with these rolls. And although the recipes makes 24 rolls, they last like… 2 days in our house. My husband pops them in like popcorn, and we already went over my bread and butter issues, so.

I did manage to give a few to my friend though- she’s preggers. I told her that they were buns for her oven. (God I’m funny.)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tsp. active dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 C. warm milk
  • 1 1/2 T melted butter
  • 1/4 C. plus 1 tsp. sugar
  • 3-4 C. all purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. salt

I used my bread machine dough setting to make this.

Combine water, yeast and 1 tsp. sugar and let sit till foamy, about 7 minutes. Add in warm milk, melted butter, 1 beaten egg, sugar, salt and then flour. I ended up using about 3 1/2 C. flour. Once dough setting is complete, remove and knead a few more times on a floured surface. Pinch off gold ball size pieces and flatten just a touch and place on greased cookie sheet. Allow to rise another hour and then bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden brown on top.

TEXAS ROADHOUSE BUTTER

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 sticks of butter, at room temperature
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 c. honey
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  •

DIRECTIONS:

Whip the butter so it’s nice and creamy.
This is where the room temperature part makes things easier)

Add the powdered sugar and mix it all in. Then add the honey and the cinnamon. Then whip it. Whip it good. (“Ba da ba da da. Crack that whip!”) Scrape the sides and whip it a little more.

Store the heavenly concoction in the fridge or leave it out at room temperature. It’s going to spread much easier at room temperature, but it’s up to you! Serve on rolls, toast, bagels, sweet potatoes, etc. Enjoy! And good luck not eating all of it!

Here are 15 powerful Bible verses about how God cares for you.

Do you ever feel like God is far off? Do you need Bible verses about how God cares for you? That maybe he has forgotten about you? That he isn’t that involved in your life? Do you ever wonder if God really cares for you? We will all be tempted to feel like that from time to time. I think we can all relate to how David felt in Psalm 22:

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? Psalm 22:1

We can feel like God has forsaken us. That he is far away. That he doesn’t see our pain or hear our groaning. One of the greatest challenges believers face on a regular basis, is what will we believe – our feelings and emotions or God’s Word. Our feelings are real. We really feel them. They are strong. But our feelings are a poor barometer of the truth. Though they are true feelings, they are not always the truth. God’s word is the truth, whether we feel it or not. So when we FEEL like God is not near, we must remember his Word. We must remember his promises.

1.  For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” Isaiah 41:13

God doesn’t simply send an angel to hold your right hand. The God of heaven and earth personally holds your right hand. This is a figurative expression of his closeness to us and his personal care for us. He says that we are not to fear because he personally helps us – “I am the one who helps you.”

2.  Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Here God says that he personally will be with us, strengthen, help and uphold us. For this reason, we need not fear or be dismayed when facing or going through tough times.

3. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. Isaiah 43.2

We will all “pass through waters” and rivers of hardship and uncertainty and walk through the fires of life. But God promises, “I will be with you.” Personally. Presently. In the midst of the fire, like he was with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

4. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Psalm 32.8

This is one of my life verses. God himself, the fountain of infinite wisdom and knowledge, promises to personally instruct and teach his children. And he promises to counsel us with his eye upon us. He is watching over us every second. He never slumbers nor sleeps. And he counsels us step by step, day by day, with his eye constantly watching over our every step.

5. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Psalm 23.1-3

In this, one of the most well known passages in the Bible, God tells us he cares for us intimately and personally. He leads us. Feeds us, gives us rest in him. Our good shepherd feeds us and refreshes us in his word – in green pastures. He personally restores our souls when we are weary and drained. He personally leads us in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake – so that we will bring glory to his name.

6. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Isaiah 40:11

Our good Shepherd gathers us in his arms and carries us “in his bosom,” a picture of intimacy and closeness and deep care, and he gently leads us.

7. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5.6-7

God isn’t so busy running the universe that he doesn’t have time for our petty worries. He tells us to cast all our anxieties on him. Why? Because HE CARES FOR YOU. He cares about you. He cares about your children and grandchildren. He cares about you in your job. He cares about your church. He cares for you, that you would have joy and strength.

8. As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! Psalm 40.17

The Lord takes thought for us individually – “the Lord takes thought for ME.” You personally are always on his mind. He knows us intimately when we’re “poor and needy” spiritually, emotionally, or physically. And because he takes thought for us he is our help and deliverer. So cry out to him!

9. When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34.17-18

Are you brokenhearted? Crushed in spirit? The Lord is near to you. He is with you and identifies deeply with you. If God tells us to weep with those who weep, how much more does he feel for us in our sadness and pain. And he tells us to cry for help, because he hears the cries of those he has made righteous by the blood of Christ. And our personal Savior will deliver us out of ALL our troubles.

10. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2.13

We were once far off from God, but when we believed in Jesus, God brought us near by his blood. How near? We are one with Christ, in union with him. Adopted as God’s children. No longer far off, but family.

11. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13.5

God will never leave nor forsake us. This is how we can be content in every circumstance. We have God himself, the fountain of life and every good thing, and he will never abandon us.

12. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. John 15:15

Talk about intimacy! Jesus calls us his friends! Intimate friends. Friends are intimate and share with each other. And Jesus makes known his Father and his Father’s words and ways to us.

13. A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18.24

Jesus is closer to us than any brother, than any family member could ever be. And he sticks close to us.

14. Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Isaiah 49.15

I love this verse. Human mothers have a deep care and affection and concern for their nursing children. Human mothers have deep compassion on their infants. Yet sometimes, they may forget. Yet God has more compassion and care for us than the most loving mothers on earth. He will never forget to care for us or fail to have compassion on us.

15. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

When we are afflicted, we can run to “the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.” And there is no affliction he will not comfort us in – he comforts us in “ALL OUR AFFLICTION.” So much so that we can pour out God’s comfort on others in their pain.

I hope these verses encourage you as much as they have encouraged me through the years. Isn’t our God wonderful? God cares for you.

THE TRAIN

At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel by our side. As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of your life. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone. Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum. Some, however, will go so unnoticed that we don't realize they vacated their seats.

This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves.

The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.

I wish you all a joyful journey ~

HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU -- THE END OF AN ER

HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU -- THE END OF AN ERA

The young guns may not understand the meaning of this, but you will.  The Roy  Rogers  Museum in Branson, MO has closed its doors forever.  The contents of the museum were sold at a public auction.  Roy Rogers told his son, if the museum ever operates at a loss, close it, and sell the contents. He complied.  Note the follow-on article truly the end of an era.

Here is a partial listing of some of the items that were sold at auction:

Roy's 1964 Bonneville (Pontiac) sold for $254,500. It was estimated to sell between 100 and 150 thousand dollars.

His script book from the January 14,1953 episode of This Is Your Life sold for $10,000 (EST. $800-$1,000).

A collection of signed baseballs (Pete Rose, Duke Snyder, and other greats) sold for $3,750.

A collection of signed bats (Yogi Berra, Enos Slaughter, Bob Feller, and others) sold for $2,750.

Trigger 's saddle and bridle sold for $386,500.

One of many of Roy's shirts sold for $16,250 and one of his many cowboy hats sold for $17,500.

One set of boot spurs sold for $10,625. (He never used a set of spurs on Trigger)

His flight jacket sold for $7,500

His set of dinnerware plates and silverware sold for $11,875.

The Bible they used at the dinner table every night sold for $8,750.

One of several of his guitars sold for $27,500.

Nellybelle (the Jeep) sold for $116,500.

Bullet (stuffed) sold for $35,000 (EST. 10-15 K). He was their real pet.

Dale's parade saddle, estimated to sell between 20-30 K, sold for $104,500.

One of many pairs of Roy's boots sold for $21,250.

Trigger (stuffed) sold for $266,500.

Do you remember the 1938 movie The Adventures of Robinhood, With Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland?

Well, Olivia rode Trigger in that movie.  Trigger was bred on a farm co-owned by Bing Crosby.  Roy bought Trigger on a time payment plan for $2,500.  Roy and Trigger made 188 movies together.  Trigger even outdid Bob Hope by winning an Oscar in the movie Son of Paleface in 1953.

It is extremely sad to see this era lost forever. Despite the fact that Gene and Roy's movies, as well as those of other great characters, can be bought or rented for viewing, today's kids would rather spend their time playing video games.  Today it takes a very special pair of parents to raise their kids with the right values and morals.  These were the great heroes of our childhood, and they did teach us right from wrong, and how to have and show respect for each other and the animals that share this earth.

You and I were born at the right time. We were able to grow up with these great people even if we never met them.  In their own way they taught us patriotism and honor. We learned that lying and cheating were bad, and that sex wasn't as important as love. We learned how to suffer through disappointment and failure and work through it.  Our lives were drug free.

So it's good-bye to Roy and Dale, Gene and Hoppy (Hop-a-long Cassidy), the Lone Ranger and Tonto.  Farewell to Sky King (and Penny)and Superman and (Dragnet) Sgt. Friday.  Thanks to Capt. Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers, and Capt. Noah and all those people whose lives touched ours, and made them better.

Happy Trails... It was a great ride through childhood

PS  I’m sure that those readers under 50 years of age will not appreciate this and probably have no frame of reference.

MONDAY QUOTES: Yogi Berra’s Funniest ‘Yogi-isms’

Yogi Berra made his Major League Baseball debut for the New York Yankees in 1946. The 21-year-old catcher would go on to play 19 seasons — all but the last season for the Yankees — in a career that made him a baseball legend. He won 10 World Series championships as a player (more than anyone else), was an 18-time All-Star, won the MVP award three times, and hit 358 home runs. In 1972, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and he is still regarded as one of the greatest catchers of all time. But before he even made his debut, Berra was already a hero: He took part in the Normandy landings during World War II, earning a Purple Heart.

Beyond baseball, Yogi Berra became famous for what he said. Known as “Yogi-isms,” his comments were a mix of impromptu witticisms, observations, and occasional malapropisms. He has also been linked to a wide array of well-known quotes, often spuriously. He didn’t say, for example, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings,” despite often being attributed with it. (He might have coined, “The game isn't over till it's over,” but even that is unclear.)

Still, Yogi Berra did come up with many funny lines, even if some of his jokes were already in circulation. Whether the humor was deliberate or unintentional is sometimes hard to say. Berra himself said, “I don’t think I ever said anything intentionally funny in my life. Sometimes the quotes just happen — I just don’t know when I’ll say them.” Here are some of the funny “Yogi-isms” that have been attributed to the witty Yankee through the years.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

This quote may not have originated with Berra, but he certainly helped popularize it. It’s also possible that he said it with unintentional humor. According to a 2009 biography, Berra was explaining how to get to his house, and said that you could take a right or a left at the fork as both roads eventually arrived at his home.

You can observe a lot by watching.

Berra said this line at a press conference in 1963. As with many of his famous quotes, it’s hard to say if it was a gaffe or intended to be funny.

Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical.

Again, it’s hard to know if this was a gaffe or intentional humor. Either way, it’s another classic Berra line.

I want to thank everybody for making this night necessary.

Here we have an example of a Berra gaffe that had unintentionally funny results. He delivered the line, or a variation of it (reports differ), during a speech in 1947. He should have said “possible” rather than “necessary,” much to the mirth of the press.

If people don’t want to come out to the ballpark, nobody’s going to stop them.

Berra said this line, or a variation of it, when commenting on declining baseball attendances in Kansas City.

Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.

Berra confirmed that he said this line in reference to Ruggeri’s restaurant in his old neighborhood in St. Louis. But it’s possible he’d heard the quip before, as it was already in circulation. Still, he definitely helped popularize it.

Nah, I had to get up to answer the phone anyway.

This was Berra’s witty response when, very early in the morning, the phone rang and the caller apologetically said, “I hope I didn’t wake you.” Again, the joke was already in circulation, so it’s possible Berra had heard it before.

It doesn’t matter if you’re ugly in this racket. All you have to do is hit the ball, and I never saw anyone hit with his face.

Berra had to put up with some unpleasant comments about his appearance, including some from detractors who called him “The Ape.” This (or a similar version of it) was his stock reply to them.

I really didn’t say everything I said.

Berra came out with this witty remark in 1986, nicely demonstrating the classic style of his “Yogi-isms.”

Sunday Thoughts: We are among wolves in sheep clothing .....

When I was a HS sophomore – decades ago! – my World History teacher was Mrs. Holloway, but we all called her Granny Holloway. She was a slight woman, scarcely 5 feet tall, seemingly fragile, but full of vim and vinegar….you know the type. She could speak for hours about the Fall of the Roman Empire, the Inquisition, the Industrial Revolution, and the World Wars. She never sat while she lectured, never stood at a lectern, but moved around the room making eye contact with all of her students. She was demanding too, and I can’t remember how many papers were sent back to me because she would note “you can do better than this, Miss Schaal.”

One day during class, an office aid interrupted her lecture to hand her a note. She read it silently, apologized, and said she needed to leave the room. We knew it had to be important because Granny Holloway stopped lectures for no one.

We sat in the room talking to one another when the door opened, and in walked Mrs. Abels, another teacher in our HS. She explained to us that Granny had been faced with an emergency, a serious one, and it was questionable if she would even be returning to finish out the semester. We were stunned. Would we get a chance to tell her goodbye? Would we get updates, so we would know she was ok? Mrs. Abels assured us that we need not worry, that Granny was safe but needed time away, and that the best thing we could do for her, and the best way we could show our devotion to her, was to be cooperative with her replacement. Mrs. Abels confirmed that she had been asked and had agreed to step in as Granny’s replacement.

Cheer up, she told us, this could be a good thing. Other teachers still believed in endless homework and projects with deadlines and hard work. She would not bring that into our class. She believed in clean slates. If there were grades that we did not like, she could give us a chance to bring them up. She asked us what suggestions we had to make the semester a better learning experience. Someone mentioned that lectures were boring and we wanted more films. Done, she said. Someone else mentioned that a free day now and then would help us if we needed to catch up on work in other classes. She didn’t see a problem with that. She asked us how we felt about an end-of-semester party. Um, yeah, sounded very good to us. And on and on. Mrs. Abels listened intently and agreed to all of our suggestions, continually emphasizing that her concern was that we have a good learning experience and enjoy the semester. She also reminded us that we were lucky to not be sent out to other classes where we would be working to catch up, and that of course this was all for Granny.

Near the end of the period, shortly before the bell rang, the door opened and Granny sauntered in with her usual Granny Holloway attitude. “How did they do?,” she asked. “Marvelous,” said Mrs. Abels. “They were completely in my hands.”

Granny then faced us and said “And that, my students, is how a dictator takes over a nation. Not with guns or tanks or laws or mandates. They do it using a poster child and promises and gifts and protection from an enemy.”

I can’t remember a lesson all through 12 years of public school that made such an impression on me, and has stayed with me.

We are among wolves in sheep clothing, many are being deceived with a false light! I was falling for it myself until the Lord opened my eyes to see and my ears to hear.

Stay awake! And buckle up. Put on the FULL armor of God, we are going to need it in the days to come, NO man is going to “Save the World”! Jesus Christ is the only Way, Truth and the Light!

Rick's Recipes: Butter Schnitzel

I have been to Germany, and in my travels a good friend of mine made me this. I have duplicated and improved upon his recipe.

Prep:  25 mins

Cook:  30 mins

Total:  55 mins

Servings:  12

Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 12 boneless pork loin chops, 3/4 inch thick
  • 2 cups bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • ½ pound butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup dry white wine (Optional)
  • 1 pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • olive oil as needed
  •

Directions

  • Step 1

Pound the pork chops with a spiked meat mallet until 1/4 inch thick; set aside. In a large bowl, combine the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley flakes, salt, and pepper. Press the pork into the crumbs to bread thoroughly; set aside.

  • Step 2

Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Pour in the wine and sliced mushrooms. Allow to simmer and cook until the mushrooms have softened, about 10 minutes. Stir together the cornstarch and water, then add to the mushroom sauce. Simmer until the sauce has thickened, then remove from the heat and set aside.

  • Step 3

Meanwhile, heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a large, nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the pork cutlets a few at a time until golden brown and cooked through, 1 to 2 minutes per side. Serve with reserved mushroom sauce.

Friday Funnies: Sent to me by a friend....

A minister was praying one Sunday, and all of a sudden, there was a loud whistle from the back pew. The church members were horrified.

As they turned to look, they saw a little boy being snatched up by his mother. "What in the world are you doing?" exclaimed the distraught mother.

"I was praying that God would teach me how to whistle, and He just did!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little kid visiting church for the first time, watched with great interest as the offering plate was passed.

He pulled on his dad's coat sleeve as the ushers got closer, and said out-loud,

"Don't pay for me, Daddy, I'm under five!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little boy was sick on Palm Sunday and stayed home from church with his mother. His father returned from church holding a palm branch.

The little boy was curious and asked, “Why do you have that palm branch, dad?”

“You see, when Jesus came into town, everyone waved Palm Branches to honor him, so we got Palm Branches today.”

The little boy replied, “Aw Shucks!!!

The one Sunday I miss is the Sunday that Jesus shows up”!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHARRON!

Happy Birthday to Sharron!!

I want to be sure and express my love for Sharron. God brought her into my life when I was a youth pastor at a church in Charlotte, NC. I had just graduated from college. Sharron had just earned her RN degree and was recruited by a hospital in Charlotte. It was almost love at first sight. We began to date within days after meeting and were married five months later. That was the summer of 1978. God blessed us with twin daughters in November 1980 as we began our family. We departed Charlotte in 1981 to move to the Northern Virginia area. Our ministry took us to Marion, IN; Sturgis MI; Topeka, KS; Raleigh, NC and Gastonia, NC.

In 2018 I changed my category of service with the Wesleyan Church to Retired Minister. We relocated to Indian Trail, NC to move into a house owned by our daughter Stephanie and her husband Joshua.  We now live near Danielle and Stephanie and we enjoy seeing our five grandchildren on a regular basis.

This last year, Sharron and I have gone through situations that have truly deepened our love and commitment to each other. In July 2021, Sharron went through a battery of test including a CAT scan and was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer.

She underwent surgery on August 17th.  On October 13th she began a five day a week for 5 weeks for radiation treatment.  At the close of the 25 treatments she “rang the bell” and was pronounced cancer free! We are thanking God for His intervention in her life!

This coming June we will celebrate 44 years of marriage. God has truly blessed us and we are so thankful for our family and the provisions of God in our life.

A Devotional Thought: Crossing the Jordan

Today you are about to cross the Jordan River…But recognize today that the Lord your God is the one who will cross over ahead of you like a devouring fire to destroy them. He will subdue them so that you will quickly conquer them and drive them out, just as the Lord has promised.”

                                                       — Deuteronomy 9:1,3

GOD WILL CROSS OVER AHEAD OF YOU.

It is because of God’s grace that the people of Israel experienced victory over their enemies, not because of their own righteousness. It is because of God’s undeserved favor in our lives that we experience His blessings, not because of anything we have done to earn His love. I am overwhelmed with gratitude this morning that God crosses over ahead of us, that He allows us to experience His presence, that He sets out a road for us to follow. I will daily choose to love Him, serve Him and obey Him.

“After the Lord your God has done this for you, don’t say in your hearts, ‘The Lord has given us this land because we are such good people!’ No, it is because of the wickedness of the other nations that he is pushing them out of your way. It is not because you are so good or have such integrity that you are about to occupy their land. The Lord your God will drive these nations out ahead of you only because of their wickedness, and to fulfill the oath he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You must recognize that the Lord your God is not giving you this land because you are good, for you are not – you are a stubborn people.” – Deuteronomy 9:3-6

Moses reminded God’s people of how angry they had made the Lord when they rebelled against him. He told them the story again of how they had melted down their gold and made a calf to worship, while Moses was on the mountain receiving instructions from God. When Moses pleaded with God to forgive His people once again, He chose to give them another chance — another pair of tablets with the ten commandments written on them. They had another opportunity to get it right, so Moses imparted wisdom to them before they started this new chapter in history.

So now Israel, what do you think God expects from you? Just this: LIVE IN HIS PRESENCE in holy reverence, follow the road he sets out for you, love him, serve God, your God, with everything you have in you, obey the commandments and regulations of God that I’m commanding you today—live a good life.

Look around you: Everything you see is God’s—the heavens above and beyond, the Earth, and everything on it. But it was your ancestors who God fell in love with; he picked their children—that’s you!—out of all the other peoples. That’s where we are right now. So cut away the thick calluses from your heart and stop being so willfully hard headed. God, your God, is the God of all gods, he’s the Master of all masters, a God immense and powerful and awesome. He doesn’t play favorites, takes no bribes, makes sure orphans and widows are treated fairly, takes loving care of foreigners by seeing that they get food and clothing.

You must treat foreigners with the same loving care — remember, you were once foreigners in Egypt.

Reverently respect God, your God, serve him, hold tight to him, back up your promises with the authority of his name.

He’s your praise! He’s your God!

He did all these tremendous, these staggering things that you saw with your own eyes.

When your ancestors entered Egypt, they numbered a mere seventy souls. And now look at you—you look more like the stars in the night skies in number. And your God did it.                                  – Deuteronomy 10:12-17 (The Message)

FOLLOW THE ROAD SET FOR YOU.

Father God, I cannot help but smile as I think of your goodness! My heart is overflowing with all you have done! Thank you for being a generous God, even when we fail and struggle. Lord, thank you for the privilege to be called to holiness, to be set apart for your glory and for your excellence. We feast in your presence this morning as we rejoice in all you have accomplished! Fill us with your strength and your righteousness today, we pray.

Lord, we take this time to pray for our country. We know we are not a nation that deserves your blessings. Please forgive us for our hardheadedness and cut away our thick calluses. Help us to find a balance between protecting our freedoms and protecting our country. Help us to always be a refuge for those in need, to be compassionate towards ALL people. You are a God immense and powerful and awesome, taking loving care of all your children. Give us hearts that extend that same love to one another, treating foreigners with the same loving care we receive from you. Amen.
